The Moon

As the day bleeds into the night
And it becomes quiet and dark
When fireflies shine bright
She rules the world as a monarch
Her warm sister that conquers the day
Was born to dance in the spotlight
And she’s normally shunned away
As she’s associated with fright
But she has a few people around her
That love the way she glows
And rather than push and deter her
They embrace all of her shadows
One little girl asked, “do you ever get envious?”
The moon simply replied, “no.”
And went on to explain that’s nescience
As too much attention can stunt your growth
Sometimes you need the quiet and alone
To work through the things you have to do
And come back renewed, on your own
To appreciate the skies that you flew
But she did say that to appreciate the light
You need to appreciate your murky night
Through the battles and wars you fight
Only then do you illuminate your bright
“So, no, I don’t feel the sun is better than me.
Neither do I think she means more than me.
She’s here to brighten people with glee
But no waves will crash without me.”
There’s a time and place for everything
And everyone and everything has a role to play
And your flowers will always bloom in the Spring
No matter how long your winters stay
