Roots, Branches, and Leaves

This is a poem that talks about the people in our life. The ones that are meant to only be there for a little while, some are only there for a good while, while others are meant to be in your life for a long time, and knowing the difference between the three. Enjoy.
Imagine a tree,
With roots, branches, and leaves.
Think about the people that resonate,
How they are, will be their fate.
The leaves are only there to teach
The lessons you need to heed
They will only be there for a season,
They will stay, until there's no reason.
The branches seem strong
Until they break and no longer hold on.
You will think that they could support
The foundations of your fort
But they will deceive
And they will no doubt, leave.
A tree can have thousands of branches
It's tempting to see if it's you it catches.
If it's time to close your door,
To let them walk, then let them fall.
There's no point in looking back
To wonder if it's you they lack.
Because all you need are the roots
And you need them in order to bare fruit.
Hold on to the ones that keep you standing,
Not to the ones that leave you hanging.
If the others want to depart,
Don't let them break your heart,
Because as life moves on, you will see,
The roots are the ones that help you breathe.
