I stood on the doorstep of a lady
Who told me the only way to live
Was to live life to the fullest
With every blessed breath you get
She said, “All we become at the end,
Is nothing but a spirit and bone,
So, from the beginning, to the end,
Live that Dash on your tombstone.”
And it does not matter how much you own,
Because you’ll lose it all in the end
And spend your dash with those you love,
With family and chosen friends
Sure, don’t be quick to anger,
And show appreciation more,
And love the people in our lives,
Like you’ve never loved before.
But remember, my love, that out of it all
You take the time to appreciate you,
And truly understand the way you are
And not someone you saw past through
Of course, treat each other with respect
And more often wear a smile,
Remembering this special dash
Might only last just a little while
But remember when your eulogy is read
Would you be proud of the things they say
About how you spent your dash
If you didn’t live life your own way
Don’t live just to make others smile
Make sure you live, love and laugh
Because you’ll never get another chance
To live it fully if you’ve only lived for half
