Have you ever wished that you were someone else
Thought that others haven’t gone through the same hell
Wondered if you were destined to be the one to suffer
Wishing that this crooked, cruel life was done and over
Were you the one that got those glaring stares
Like what did I do to be the one to bear
All the slander, oppression and hate,
What did I ever do to deserve this fate?
And, sure, you may wish that you were different
Ending yourself might’ve even seemed considerate
But what good is that if you were meant to stand out
And shine so bright that you get picked from the crowd?
When everyone else seems to live life the same
And were born to conform to society’s frames
Why would you ever wish to be like them?
They are more like stones and you are a gem
Treating you the way they did was deliberate
To make you feel like you were less than adequate
But being the black sheep is more than a blessing
Because “ordinary” isn’t part of your programming
And you’ll learn to love every part of who you are
Especially everything and everyone that gave you scars
Because you’ll not know it until you take that first step
To take the paths that others would least expect
You’ll hardly believe it but there are others like you
That’s fought through the hardest of breakthroughs
And sooner or later you’ll find out and realize
The soul in your heart was meant to be liberalized
Not shoved and kept in a corner, under wraps,
Trained to be quiet and breadcrumbed with scraps.
You were born to be loved, treasured, and free,
and someday you’ll use that and learn to lead.
But, for now, know you’re here for a reason
And your self worth will grow after every season
When you know true love starts within you
And you believe in your own value
